Halloween Party

Last night I went to a Halloween party thrown by a friend of my hubby’s. I went as Wednesday Addams:

full body

This costume was probably a good move for me, because it gave me an excuse not to smile. I was in character instead of feeling awkward in a room full of people I didn’t know. I was in character instead of being annoyed that the hostess pulled on my wig. I was in character instead of being pissed that the couple’s damn dog kept trying to hump the party guests (my baby included).
Its damn unnerving to be in a room full of people that all know each other, except for you. I’m pretty sure I was invited over as a decoration for the party, not as a guest. The hostess thinks the nerd goth thing I’ve got going on is fascinating….or, whatever…
I eventually went and grabbed a bag of games out of my car (all ways a game mistress I suppose)and set up in the living room to play with the few other people not engrossed in conversation, which included someone’s kid that got dragged along. For the record… I tried mingling… I promise….Hell, I think I have met some of those people before….But, other than comments on how cute my baby was, I didn’t really get any conversation out of anyone. My baby is super cute though:
Well, I think that event counted as my reminder that I’m really not fun at parties (which explains why no one comes to mine), but I did get a lot of candy out of the ordeal:

We spent a decent portion of yesterday at ValleyCon.
Its a fairly small, local convention; I described it to someone yesterday as a costumed swapmeet. It was super fun, some of the vendors even remembered us from other events!
I went as Ariel:
I could not find a decent mermaid outfit for my little one, so she was Snow White instead:
Hey, at least we rocked the princess theme.
My kid is super sociable (so, the opposite of her mama) and she had a great time getting to talk to everyone at the con.
I lucked into a bunch of Kamen Rider toys:

The vendor didn’t know or care what the were and just wanted rid of them so I got them for cheap. So, all and all a super fun day.

Game Night

Last night, the hubby and I managed to pull ourselves away from binge watching Gravity Falls long enough to play a couple of games with another family.
We tried out Munchkin Steampunk:
munchkin steampunk
Of course I like steampunk, it combines two of my favorite things: science fiction and Victorian fashion (goth).
It was fun and, as usual, full of punny cards:
I think this one would mix pretty well with Munchkin Oz, may have to try that….
Then I finally got to try out Love2Hate.
It more or less plays like Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples minus having to google people’s names.
We had a blast with it and we were able to let our friend’s 12 year old play (sure, she’s played Cards Against Humanity, but this didn’t go over her head quite as much.

That’s all we played because we all decided to go get ice cream… Pumpkin pecan ice cream exists….Its amazing….

Game Night

So, we gave 5th edition D&D a go last night. I haven’t played a pen and paper RPG in a while, this edition was super easy to pick up and play. Its defiantly designed to allow people who haven’t tried a pen and paper RPG before to give D&D a shot. I happened to have the beginner’s box; so we used the pre-made characters, while our DM made up an amazing story up on the fly. My little halfling rouge kicked major ass.
There was a reason that we broke from our normal tabletop games:
Two weekends from now we will participating in a 48hr D&D session to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. If you’d like to help us make our fundraising goal you can go here:

Color Run

Here is a woman who came to the realization that she paid money to get up early on a Saturday to run a 5K.
So, Saturday was my second color run; I didn’t think I was going to get to participate this year due to all the medical problems I’ve had this year, but I was given the ok to start running again.
It was someone else’s second color run too:
before and after
I was pregnant with her when I ran last year; this year I had a running buddy!
She was cheering all the runners on and even got her own finisher’s medal!
It defiantly wasn’t my fastest time, my leg was acting up and we blew a tire on the stroller, but we had a fun, messy time. We even saw a unicorn:

It was a good time, if you’ve never done a color run and it comes to your area defiantly do it!

Everyday Makeup Tutorial

Published August 22, 2015 by kemeah

Occasionally I get asked about my makeup, so I decided to put together a post on how I do my everyday makeup.
Ok, here’s me without any makeup on. Yes, I know I look like I don’t get enough sleep, or don’t look “ok” (as my boss would say). I’m fine, I promise.
So, we’ll start with foundation:
I’ve always kind of just put it in a cross shape on my face and the rub it in. I’m using Covergirl ivory, because even after forcing myself outside all summer, I’m still super pale. I can’t actually recommend a brand of foundation, because it really just depends on your skin tone. For example ivory in a different brand doesn’t work for me.
I found this bronzer I really like; I apply a light coat of it over top of my foundation to help blend it in. I actually don’t wear blush unless it a special occasion (cosplay, office holiday parties, getting photos done), but this even helps blend that in. You can skip this part if you don’t want two layers of gunk on your face, or just use this instead of foundation.
Now that I’ve made my face all one color, time to add some more back in:
Today I’m wearing white eyeliner ( I wear black to work all week). Apply it to both top eyelids; now for the bottom, I’m filling it in all the way, half way looks pretty nice too. If you want a thicker line, Blackheart (carried at Hot Topic)has some pretty decent eye crayons in very fun colors. Works a little better than trying to color it all in with a pencil.
Now that you have your eyeliner on:
Choose 3 eye shadow colors:
If you’re really not sure what colors would go together nicely brands like Covergirl and E.L.F. or Hard Candy have pre-done sets that work pretty well (I went on an E.L.F. beauty book binge after last Halloween…easiest way to get cheap black eye shadow), but if you are looking for colors that really “pop” I have a few recommendations. If you’re a loose powder type of person I recommend Espionage Cosmetics:
Ok, so its makeup marketed to nerds….
If you don’t want that kind of mess, Blackheart its pretty fun:
Once you’ve chosen:
Color #1 goes from your eyeliner all the way to your eyebrow. I recommend a light color: pink, tan, white, etc.
Apply color #2 over top of the first from your eyeliner to roughly the crease of your eye, little more little less all good.
Color #3 goes over color #2 along your eyeliner, just enough to add a little extra color.
Once you’re happy with you’re eye shadow, add a little mascara.
Miss Manga is my current favorite….it gives you “anime eyes” lol. A smaller brush may work better for your lower lashes, but eh…I’ve only poked myself in the eye once or twice.
Now apply some lipstick:
Again, Blackheart is a personal favorite, their lipstick lasts a good part of the day and it comes in fun colors. Good Goth also carries some unique colors:
Now you’re done:
If you wear glasses, don’t worry this still looks amazing with them on:
This whole process takes me roughly 5 minutes in the morning. It also works amazingly with “work appropriate” colors. So, bright colors, dark colors, SFW colors this works with any thing.
Um, this the first “how to” anything I’ve done. If you liked it, have questions, or requests let me know. I can do another: formal, cosplay, rainbow eyes, leopard print etc.
As always thanks for reading.

New Games

Published August 10, 2015 by kemeah

So, I tried out a couple new games this past weekend:
Munchkin Oz! I’m so glad I found this(Target exclusive); My obsession with the works of L Frank Baum as a child was about the only thing that rivaled my obsession with Star Wars.
So, the game is not based on The Wizard of Oz movie; its based on the books. I’m pretty sure I even stumbled across a The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus reference on a card. Seriously, they even have Dorthy in her silver slippers and use the Tin Man’s real name. 🙂
Oh, but you don’t get to play as a munchkin.
Its just as fun as any other Munchkin game; just a bit extra fangirling involved.
We also played Exploding Kittens:
If you’re not familiar, The Oatmeal http://theoatmeal.com/ ran a Kickstarter for a Russian Roulette style card game. It also came in NSFW:
nsf kittens
It was super fun, once we got the hang of it. And the box meows!
Well, that’s enough rambling for now…. thanks for reading!
