So my game group was created as a way to survive the winter of the frozen north, so attendance is pretty low in the summer. So sorry for the gaps in posting.
We played some new games last night, well this first one isn’t “new” just a different version:
Hubby bought Adventure Time Munchkin.
It plays like any other version, though with the Dungeon Crawl addition its most comparable to Munchkin Cthulhu or Apocalypse. Very fun and adorable, but may have run a bit smoother if more of the players had been familiar with the Land of Ooo. Especially considering you play as a character from Adventure Time, I was Fiona!
The other game we played was:
Someone brought Krosmaster Arena. We seem to run into this issue of no one reading the rules to a new game until we want to try and play it, but we managed to stumble our way through a basic version of the game. Basically you move around the board and beat each other up. It was enjoyable, wouldn’t mind trying it again.
That’s it for now, short sweet and to the point. Thanks for reading!
Sorry the in-laws invaded and I haven’t gotten to game for the last 2 Saturdays, I’ll be back to regularly scheduled blogging soon.
We attended the Midwest Viking Festival/Scandinavian Culture Festival on Saturday. We’ve gone the past couple of years and it is always a blast. And I had the perfect dress to wear to it:
So this festival takes place in the Hjemkomst center, which is known for the viking ship it houses. Story behind the ship here:
Outside the center they set up a viking village
The set up has a bit of a Renaissance Faire feel to it, but its more educational than fantasy based. My little one was in awe of the reenactors:
She literally sat with some of the vikings for half an hour comparing helmets. which by the way were functional:
They always put on a wonderful fighting demonstration. It is actual armor and blunted weapons so (in my opinion) much cooler than the fights at most of the ren faires I’ve been to. My little one stated asking for hugs from the reenactors:
And they were more than happy to give them to her.
Then there was the food:
Outdoor beer garden. Beer provided by Hammerheart brewery. I’m not typically a beer drinker, but I’ve enjoyed the beers I’ve tried from them.
For actual food there is a variety of foods to choose from for Scandinavian countries:
We tend to get a little bit of everything and share it.
There’s also music, story telling, information on the cultures and traditions of the various countries. Its all so much fun.
That’s what I like about where I live; we only have a few months of good weather so they make the most of it up here. In the past two weeks I’ve attended to art festivals and saw an outdoor play (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) in addition to getting to go to the Viking Festival. Well, I’m off to enjoy the peace and quiet of my in-laws finally being gone. Thanks for reading!
So, I got to go see Jurassic World yesterday. I haven’t been to the movies in 6 months O.o weird considering I used to count that as a hobby of mine. We got invited by one of my coworkers/game group members, so why the hell not.
I like it than I thought I would. I wasn’t impressed when I saw Jurassic Park 3 in theaters, however many years ago that was, so I didn’t know what to expect. But, as the dinosaur loving 5 year old in me would say OMG IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!
Its set 20 years after Jurassic Park and they have finally opened a successful dinosaur theme park.
I’m looking at this theme park and thought “I would soooo take my kid there” even though I know yah, people are about to get eaten in this movie.
A comment I will make about this movie is that it felt like it tried too hard to be scary. I seriously felt like I was watching a Resident Evil movie (yah, I made a few Biohazard jokes during the movie). Scientist creates thing, cooperation uses thing to make money, thing eats people: there you go, spoiler free synopsis of Jurassic World… or maybe Resident Evil…. I don’t know. But getting back on topic, a few of the jump scares got me pretty good.
There is only one returning character from Jurassic Park to this movie:
Having him return, made things interesting. (Love B.D. Wong as an actor, I watch too much Law and Order, I squeed seeing him and Vincent D’onofrio in this).
Well, there you go. My spoiler free thoughts on Jurassic World. Bonus picture, my kid riding a dinosaur:
And, yes I’m that asshole that brought my baby to the movies with me. She was quiet except for when she cheered the dinosaurs on during the big fight scene, she was excited as we were.
So, give in to your inner child and go see this if you have a chance.
So I totally forgot to update last week, but we didn’t have much of a game night (I went home early because my back was bothering me more than normal.) The good news is the new game I bought got played this week, so I still get to share it:
So this is Just Desserts, its make by the same company that makes Fluxx, so I gave it a shot. Its so much fun you work in a restaurant and you’re trying to serve the guests what desserts they are craving. I told everyone we were working in a maid cafe, lol. Its worth trying if you’re looking for a cute ice breaker game (and its easier to explain than Sushi Go).
The we played more Smash up:
I made Pirates and Ninjas work together….They lost, but it still made for a fun time. The ninja deck is too aggressive for the way I play, lol.
What’s his face and his bitchy girl friend showed up, the plus side of that is we got to play Cards Against Humanity:
He has all the expansions, it keeps the game from getting stale. Oh and I got this black card:
I have never found my name on a necklace, key chain, or any random souvenir thing….. but its on a Cards Against Humanity Card! Don’t know if I should be happy about that or not….
I’m about at my limit for being polite to this guys girlfriend, I only any because he and hubby dearest are pretty good friends. I said something to the hubby about my back/tail bone bothering me and she butts into my conversation with a “It could be worse….” and proceeds to describe what is actually going on with me. I get she doesn’t know anything about me, but seriously what makes it appropriate to tell someone “it could be worse”? Yes, what’s going on with me could be a whole hell of a lot worse, but that doesn’t negate the fact I can’t remain seated for extended periods of time. I really try not to complain about what’s wrong with me, but it becomes relevant during game night because some of these games are a pain to play standing, lol.
Eh, enough complaining I’m not going to let one person ruin my gaming. As always thanks for reading!
So I got two game nights this weekend. With my mother being in town, the hubby and I had a free babysitter, lol. So we met up with his coworkers at a restaurant for snacks, drinks, and Cards Against Humanity. It started pretty fun, but one woman kept being really rude to me. I finally gave up and asked the hubby to go home, I was tired of being talked over when it was my turn. So much for date night, we were supposed to go to a movie, but we missed it playing games. I just don’t play well with others I guess.
Last night was a pretty short game night. We played Smash Up:
So, while this game allows for a large amount players with the expansions, it really plays better with a small group.
Half the group left after that so the rest of us played Batman Love Letters
This one has become a favorite of ours, lol.
We had more drama with that couple, but let’s just say its just tipped us to the point of just ignoring them. It sounds childish, but its keeping the peace.
