So, we gave 5th edition D&D a go last night. I haven’t played a pen and paper RPG in a while, this edition was super easy to pick up and play. Its defiantly designed to allow people who haven’t tried a pen and paper RPG before to give D&D a shot. I happened to have the beginner’s box; so we used the pre-made characters, while our DM made up an amazing story up on the fly. My little halfling rouge kicked major ass.
There was a reason that we broke from our normal tabletop games:
Two weekends from now we will participating in a 48hr D&D session to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. If you’d like to help us make our fundraising goal you can go here:
If you want to set up your own event go here:
So my game group was created as a way to survive the winter of the frozen north, so attendance is pretty low in the summer. So sorry for the gaps in posting.
We played some new games last night, well this first one isn’t “new” just a different version:
Hubby bought Adventure Time Munchkin.
It plays like any other version, though with the Dungeon Crawl addition its most comparable to Munchkin Cthulhu or Apocalypse. Very fun and adorable, but may have run a bit smoother if more of the players had been familiar with the Land of Ooo. Especially considering you play as a character from Adventure Time, I was Fiona!
The other game we played was:
Someone brought Krosmaster Arena. We seem to run into this issue of no one reading the rules to a new game until we want to try and play it, but we managed to stumble our way through a basic version of the game. Basically you move around the board and beat each other up. It was enjoyable, wouldn’t mind trying it again.
That’s it for now, short sweet and to the point. Thanks for reading!
So I totally forgot to update last week, but we didn’t have much of a game night (I went home early because my back was bothering me more than normal.) The good news is the new game I bought got played this week, so I still get to share it:
So this is Just Desserts, its make by the same company that makes Fluxx, so I gave it a shot. Its so much fun you work in a restaurant and you’re trying to serve the guests what desserts they are craving. I told everyone we were working in a maid cafe, lol. Its worth trying if you’re looking for a cute ice breaker game (and its easier to explain than Sushi Go).
The we played more Smash up:
I made Pirates and Ninjas work together….They lost, but it still made for a fun time. The ninja deck is too aggressive for the way I play, lol.
What’s his face and his bitchy girl friend showed up, the plus side of that is we got to play Cards Against Humanity:
He has all the expansions, it keeps the game from getting stale. Oh and I got this black card:
I have never found my name on a necklace, key chain, or any random souvenir thing….. but its on a Cards Against Humanity Card! Don’t know if I should be happy about that or not….
I’m about at my limit for being polite to this guys girlfriend, I only any because he and hubby dearest are pretty good friends. I said something to the hubby about my back/tail bone bothering me and she butts into my conversation with a “It could be worse….” and proceeds to describe what is actually going on with me. I get she doesn’t know anything about me, but seriously what makes it appropriate to tell someone “it could be worse”? Yes, what’s going on with me could be a whole hell of a lot worse, but that doesn’t negate the fact I can’t remain seated for extended periods of time. I really try not to complain about what’s wrong with me, but it becomes relevant during game night because some of these games are a pain to play standing, lol.
Eh, enough complaining I’m not going to let one person ruin my gaming. As always thanks for reading!
So I got two game nights this weekend. With my mother being in town, the hubby and I had a free babysitter, lol. So we met up with his coworkers at a restaurant for snacks, drinks, and Cards Against Humanity. It started pretty fun, but one woman kept being really rude to me. I finally gave up and asked the hubby to go home, I was tired of being talked over when it was my turn. So much for date night, we were supposed to go to a movie, but we missed it playing games. I just don’t play well with others I guess.
Last night was a pretty short game night. We played Smash Up:
So, while this game allows for a large amount players with the expansions, it really plays better with a small group.
Half the group left after that so the rest of us played Batman Love Letters
This one has become a favorite of ours, lol.
We had more drama with that couple, but let’s just say its just tipped us to the point of just ignoring them. It sounds childish, but its keeping the peace.
I made cupcakes for my game group again:
Yah…. They’re Hello Kitty….Occasionally I’m super girly…..
I should have baked less, I’m stuck with a bunch of leftovers. I got told thank you for a change though, I guess that’s a step up.
We got to play Cards Against Humanity:
I’m starting to enjoy this game less. I mean, its still funny but people get off on tangents and then other people get pissed other people get pissed about the game not progressing. By people, I mean that one girl I keep complaining about, she was mumbling and grumbling about my husband being chatty. Cards Against Humanity is a social game, we play it to have conversations. Maybe we just won’t play it anymore.
The night got better after she left. Someone brought in Smash Up:
This game was super fun! First I was pirates and bear cavalry and then I played as ponies and kitties! This game is random, its silly, it progresses fairly quickly and I can’t wait to play this one again. The group member who owns this one is looking to get more expansions, so those should be fun.
Bonus picture of my little geek:
Best part of everyone bringing their kids to game night is we get to watch cartoons. We watched Lego Movie and A Bug’s Life, I think we enjoyed it more than the kids did.
All and all it was a good night, I’m just really considering asking certain people to stop coming.
